Welcome to Lajuma Research Centre

Lajuma Research Centre is situated in the northern part of South Africa high up in the Soutpansberg Mountain Range between Louis Trichardt (Makhado) and Vivo. The area is famous for its breathtaking mountain scenery, pristine wilderness character and close proximity to other tourism destinations. This includes the Tuli Wilderness Area in Botswana, the Mapungubwe National Park and Archaeological Site on the Limpopo River, Venda, the Land of Legend, Blouberg, Makgabeng Plateau and the Kruger National Park. Lajuma is Malaria free.
Lajuma has been declared a Natural Heritage Site and forms part of the Luvhondo Nature Reserve within the Vhembe Biosphere Reserve. We have beautiful mountain scenery, a variety of veld types including montane forests and grasslands, clear mountain streams with waterfalls, interesting archaeological sites and a remarkable diversity of plants and animals.
We do research, education, community outreach, and we also run an Earthwatch Programme (www.earthwatch.org/exped/hill.html).
